CREATING A GRAMMAR TEACHING VIDEO FOR A FLIPPED EFL CLASSROOM
Creating a grammar teaching video for a flipped EFL classroom
The flipped classroom approach is a teaching strategy that flips the typical learning model. Instead of receiving direct instruction during class, students study fundamental ideas at home, frequently with the use of teacher-provided interactive materials, texts, or videos. After that, class time is devoted to active learning activities like group assignments, problem-solving, discussions, and practical exercises.
For language learning, the flipped classroom method has many benefits, such as more speaking and interaction chances, flexible scheduling, an emphasis on useful skills, instant feedback, and the encouragement of learner autonomy. There are certain difficulties with this strategy, though. These include the possibility of relying too much on pre-class preparation, technical obstacles, unequal skill development, a heavy instructor preparation load, and challenges in tracking comprehension. Thorough preparation, top-notch materials, and continual evaluation are essential for a successful flipped classroom implementation in order to guarantee that kids are participating and learning.
My friends Emir, Emirhan and Hüseyin and I did this assignment as a group. As a group, our goal was to prepare material for flipped classroom. Together with my friends, we prepared a video material about ‘Prepositions of Place’. In the video, we explained the subject and the usage purposes of prepositions with examples. Then we prepared a quiz on this topic to make learning permanent.
Making the project was a challenging but enjoyable process. First of all, my friends and I had to decide on the topic, and then we talked about how to explain the topic. After deciding on all these, we covered the subject in an understandable way in the video. We chose the visuals that we use to be the most suitable for the subject. After the video was finished, we divided it into 4 sections and recorded the audio. Taking the recordings was a long process because it had to be synchronised with the video. Then we edited these recordings on the video and the video was completed. We also prepared a quiz to make what was learnt in the video permanent. In the quiz, we used the most appropriate visuals for the subject.
